ETFS Precious receives recommended rating from Aegis Equities Research
Sydney, 27/10/2009
- Second accolade for ETF Securities in two months
ETF Securities (ETFS), the global pioneers of Exchange Traded Commodities (ETCs) and 3rd Generation Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) today announced that it has obtained a “recommended” rating from Aegis Equities Research1 for its precious metals platform listed on the ASX comprising ETFS Physical Gold (GOLD), ETFS Physical Silver (ETPMAG), ETFS Physical Platinum (ETPMPT) and ETFS Physical Palladium (ETPMPD) and ETFS Precious Metals Basket (ETPMPM). These ratings were achieved following an extensive due diligence and quantitative assessment process.
Aegis’s research report found that ETF Securities physically backed precious metals ETCs “provide a unique opportunity for investors in the Australian market to gain and trade exposure to physical bullion (gold, silver, platinum and palladium) in a cost effective manner with no credit risk”. The reports added that “given the defensive nature of precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium) they are a suitable investment for those investors seeking portfolio diversification.”
This comes following the surge of ETF Securities’ global assets under management (AUM) to an all-time high of A$17.1bn (US$15bn) on the back of strong investor interest in hard assets as deteriorating government finances and aggressive quantitative easing policies raise concerns about the outlook for the US dollar, British pound, other major currencies and medium-term inflation risks.
Nigel Phelan, Head of Sales, Australia and New Zealand, ETF Securities commented:
“We are delighted to receive a recommended rating from Aegis Equities Research for our precious metals ETCs listed on the ASX, which provides investors with affordable and direct access to physical bullion. “We are seeing increasing demand from institutional investors, wealth managers and Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) across Australia who are keen to get exposure to physical bullion and take advantage of their low correlation to traditional asset classes”
ETFS has launched a range of physically-backed ETCs on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) - the first time gold, silver, platinum, palladium or a precious metals basket have been made available to Australian investors through ordinary brokerage accounts.
